Eircom
Eir (previously known as eircom) is the principal provider of fixed-line telecommunications services in Ireland with approximately 2.6 million fixed-line telephone access channels in service. The company's mobile division includes Meteor and emobile.
In March 2016, Eir revealed a plan to establish 1Gbps broadband for 100,000 rural premises in locations around Ireland within the next 12 months. This means that some rural locations will have better internet than those in urban areas.
Eir CEO Richard Moat said that Eir will bring its overall broadband base to 1.9m premises by 2020.
